Romanian Fiscal Perfins

Introduction

This is a listing of Fiscal Perfins used in Romania. It is basically a listing of my own collection, so must only be considered provisional

‘Fiscal’ in this sense can be taken to mean Perfins appearing on tax stamps used fro non-postal Perfins. Perfins on the postal fiscal issued used internally in Romania is some periods are identical to the Perfins used on postal stamps and are listed in the main body of this catalogue.

Layout of pages

The earliest catalogues did not list fiscal Perfins, Erős (1996) listed 42 and The Perfin Club Catalogue (1996) listed 51. The current catalogue lists 140 different perfin designs. Consequent on this it has been necessary to introduce a new numbering system. The designs are listed in alphabetic order and numbered consecutively. These new numbers are to be found in the first column in the tables with the old catalogue number in the last row where one exists.

The ‘User’, ‘Type’, ‘Place’ and ‘Period’ columns are as in the main body of the catalogue. The ‘Rarity’ Column has been deleted as it is too soon in the study of these Perfins to judge rarity with any accuracy.

Notes on Fiscal Perfins

In some cases the same perfin was used on postal issues and on non-postal fiscal stamps, but is larger establishments the postal and tax departments were separate and different perfins were used in each. In some cases the two Perfins were similar but slight differences have been notes indicating two different machines were in use.

Care needs to be taken in assessing the ownership of fiscal Perfins as fiacal stamps were often affixed to documents originating in outside establishments and documents bearing the Perfins of two different establishments are common.
