Catalogue of Romanian Perfins

Carpet Cancellations

Romanian documents were sometimes cancelled with perforated dies, and these are sometimes mistaken for ‘Perfins’, especially when partial strikes are seen on stamps removed from there documents.  They are found mainly on fiscal stamps used to frank documents but are also found on postal issues.  They should really be known as ‘Carpet Cancellations’, and take many forms.

Examples are shown below, to help collectors separate them from true perfins

 1

Date Cancellations

Dates punches are usually in the form of
Date / Month / Year and the Romanians usually
show the month as a three letter abbreviation and
the year with the last three digits only.
In some case a two digit numeral is used for the month.

Often the name of the organization is included in a date stamp
